What These Homes Run On
A young suburb with old tanks
Dairy farms and timber stands covered these slopes before the housing waves arrived, so the oldest units of any scale are the ones fitted in the first 2000s releases, and they are timing out now. Rural-era homes around Cedar Creek Road run whatever replacement tank a previous owner chose.
Big houses, heavy draw
At the last census, 88.3 per cent of houses here had four or more bedrooms and the average household held 3.2 people, so a heater feeds several bathrooms at once. A tripped unit on a cold hilltop morning leaves the whole family under a cold tap.
Heat pumps like the ridge
The register counts 1,588 heat pump hot water units installed in this postcode, so the technology already runs on roofs nearby, and the bush edge keeps outdoor units in open air year round.
Cold, still winter nights
Cool air pools in the Cedar Creek valley after sunset in winter, colder than the river suburbs, and that is when a tired element or thermocouple tends to give up.

Frequently Asked Questions
Call (07) 3523 7167Do the new Ellendale homes need anything different for hot water?
A new Ellendale build starts with no old unit, so we size the tank to your household and fit it while the plumbing is open, which is simpler than a swap.
Are heat pumps common in Upper Kedron?
Yes, records show 1,588 heat pump hot water installs across this postcode, so plenty of local roofs already carry one, and we match a unit to your household and its bathrooms.
Does a hot water swap in Upper Kedron need Urban Utilities paperwork?
No, swapping a tank like for like is licensed plumbing work with no utility paperwork, and where any approval applies we sort it out before the old unit comes off.
Do cold valley nights stress hot water systems in Upper Kedron?
Yes, because this valley runs colder on clear winter nights than the river flats, and that first real cold snap is when a worn element or thermocouple usually quits, so those mornings book out first.
Can a heat pump sit near bedrooms on a sloping block?
It needs outdoor airflow and a spot away from bedroom windows, so on the sloping Ellendale lots Local Ferny Grove Hot Water finds a position that keeps the fan quiet and clear of retaining walls.
